Filed under: Literature & Fiction — Cath @ 1:01 pm

Mr. Muo of the novel’s title is a middle-aged man attempting to practice psychoanalysis in China. Recently returned from studying Freud and Lacan in Paris, Mr. Muo sets off on a secret quest to free his love interest, fronted by a quest to enlighten his country with his practices. Richard Eder of The Boston Globe comments on the muddiness and lack of substance behind Mr. Muo’s adventures in his review of this novel about psychoanalysis, love and, mostly, sexuality.
Chinese author Dai Sijie is a filmmaker and novelist and currently resides in France. His first novel, Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress, was an international bestseller.
